Need Help with Prophecies build
Hello all, I am new to the game and only have the prophicies edition so far. I have created a ranger and would like to use a pet and a bow. Im not sure what secondary to take or any ideas about builds. I keep reading here but alot of the builds feature skills I cant get. Any help with a build and secondary profession would be great. Thanks for any help.

There's a good place to start. All the skills they list right away are core, so you can get them in any campaign, and there's a giant list of variants you could use.

Ookkaaay hold on.
You're not sure what secondary to get? Does that mean you don't have ANY secondary yet? If that's the case, you're a loooooooooooooooooonnggg way before you gotta worry about builds.
First, check here: http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Seco...s_for_a_Ranger
Second... tell us what level you are, what is the latest mission or town you have reached?
This atleast will show us how far you are in the game, and what build is best for you.
YES, you should change your build depending on which area you are in!... usually

Lorazcyk, I am still in presearing right now. and if im right you have to have a secondary to leave. i am just trying to get some insight on what might be the best build per say in order to survive along the way.

Yes if you only have prophecies then Elementalist is probably your best bet as a secondary for the Conjures.

Just remember that if you decide to go with the Conjure spells, you need to use a bow that deals that type of damage. (ie. if you want to use Conjure Flame, you need a firey bowstring)

Thanks Szymaa, Would Conjure be the only Elementalist skill i would keep on the bar?

While you do need a secondary, the skills you have access to are limited and will be for much of the adventure (until much later in the game anyway). You can play PvP with a PvP toon and "unlock" skills. By doing so, they will become available at skill trainers in PvE for you to purchase (earlier than if you follow the story line). That or tomes will allow you to gain skills as well (just need to get to some major cities and find some $$ for trading).
The best thing (or what I enjoyed anyway) was just monkeying around and trying all sorts of crazy crap out. You'll have limited skill choices for a lot of the begining if you play directly through the story line therefore a lot of it won't be effective (or it may seem effective but in PvE only). Have fun experimenting with what they offer and figure out where you want to be with your toon later (again, you can look more to a PvP toon for PvP play if that becomes a concern. Granted we're talking unlocks, but I would assume the time it takes to get a PvP toon "unlocked" versus building a PvE toon to be PvP ready from scratch as a new player is the better way to go).
For secondaries to begin with:
/Mo - can gain access to some hard rez skills for the sake of missions (explorables you can just die & respawn if necessary). If you run some sort of pet build, you can also smite off or buff the pet.
/E - as mentioned, Conjure is always nice as long as you can find the corresponding bow string.
